Liquid AI, an MIT spin-off, is a foundation model company headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. Our mission is to build capable and efficient general-purpose AI systems at every scale.
Our goal at Liquid is to build the most capable AI systems to solve problems at every scale, such that users can build, access, and control their AI solutions. This is to ensure that AI will get meaningfully, reliably and efficiently integrated at all enterprises. Long term, Liquid will create and deploy frontier-AI-powered solutions that are available to everyone.
Anyone who wants to stay long at Liquid should be working on something that is on the critical path - everyone on the team has a vital role to play in the success of the business. The team is motivated by - and rewarded for - results above all else. There is no room for ego or stubbornness: ideas are valued and incorporated based on their merit and evidence alone, not on their source, and everyone is expected to continuously fine-tune their skills for improved performance.
AI is a new frontier - there is no playbook. Tear down the status quo, innovate, and rebuild from first principles…NEVER do anything just because “that’s the way it’s done.” Be comfortable with extreme ambiguity, and excited to drive your own day-to-day work from a broader short-term goal; leadership will seldom tell you what to do, and micromanaging, monitoring, or hand holding are never tolerated. Always prioritize building over process-creation.
Because everyone at Liquid is an expert in some domain, there is a high level of trust given to employees to execute autonomously within their domain and deliver something that works, first time. If something isn’t working, call it out early on, and then do whatever it takes to help fix it: if it makes sense to take ownership, wear different hats, and step outside your comfort zone, then do so; if not, then delegate, defer, and don’t interfere. Seek feedback early and often, but don’t let it be a blocker for delivering.
We build white-box models within a white-box organization. At any point in time, every employee at the company knows their relevant inputs (what they consume from others), their outputs (what they produce for others), and, when collaborating, can explain exactly what they’re doing and why. Be transparent to as high a degree as possible, and collaborate often and efficiently - don’t use two minds for what can be done with one.
Employees at Liquid prioritize the needs of the company, and the company prioritizes the needs and wellbeing of its employees. Liquid is a product-driven, customer-first business, and its problems are everyone’s problems: company goals should align with and support the personal, professional, and academic desires of individuals on the team. Everyone at the company respects each other’s time, cares about each other as people, and appreciates each other as equals.
Spun out of MIT CSAIL, four founders - Ramin Hasani, Mathias Lechner, Alexander Amini, and Daniela Rus, started Liquid AI to create a new generation of foundation models from first principles.
